To the
parents and guardians of Manning Oaks Elementary students:
Once again
the PTA Executive Board has been looking for ways to help make the
transition from summer vacation to school schedule easier for you
and your child. On Thursday, August 5, 2004, everyone is
encouraged to come to Meet Your Teacher night at Manning Oaks. At
this time you and your child(ren) will have the opportunity to
meet their teacher, check out our award winning media center, and
become a member of Manning Oaks Elementary PTA. Parents of
kindergarten students received a letter recently with conflicting
times for Meet Your Teacher. The correct times are as follows:
A – M is from
4-5 p.m. and N-Z is from 5-6 p.m.
Please make plans to attend this very important event.
The PTA will
be recruiting volunteers to assist with PTA’s programs and
fundraisers. All the fundraising that is done at Manning Oaks
goes to supporting our teachers with educational programs and/or
supplies that enhance the curriculum. We try to make our
fundraisers “fun” for the whole family and encourage you to
volunteer in any way that you can. Included in this mailing is a
volunteer list for you to review and return with you at Meet Your
Teacher night. The PTA Executive Board will be available to
answer any questions that you may have.
For years,
studies have shown that parent involvement increases student
achievement. The most accurate predictor of a student’s
achievement in school is not income or social
status, but the extent to which that student’s family is
involved. When families are able to 1) create a home
environment that encourages learning, 2) communicate high, yet
reasonable, expectations for their children’s achievement and
future careers, and 3) become involved in their children’s
education at school and in the community, students excel.
